Yorbeau Resources Inc. is a Canadian public company (TSX:YRB.A) involved in gold exploration in Quebec, Canada. Its properties are located in a northwestern area of the province associated with a large number of significant deposits, namely the Cadillac-Larder Lake region on the famed Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Some 200 million ounces of gold have thus far been mined in the area.
At the present time, Yorbeau is focusing on its Rouyn Property that has demonstrated the most immediate and substantial prospects for discovery of a major gold deposit and eventual mine development. Representing a consolidation of several contiguous properties strategically located on a famously productive mineralized trend in the Noranda mining camp, the Rouyn Property is divided into seven "Blocks": Augmitto, Cinderella, Durbar, Lake Gamble, Astoria, Wright-Rouyn and Lake Bouzan.
Other holdings of the Company include its interest in the Beschefer Property in northwestern Quebec, as well as a net smelter return royalty on the Ellison Property in Bousquet Township of Quebec, a property that Agnico-Eagle Mines purchased from Yorbeau in 2002.
Yorbeau's exploration work carried out on the contiguous Augmitto and Cinderella Blocks during 2005-2007 confirmed the presence of both 'flow' and carbonate type ores within the blocks. The geology and mineralization show many characteristics similar to the Kerr Addison Mine. Over its lifetime Kerr Addison, located on the same geological structure sixty kilometers to the west, produced over eleven million ounces of gold.
Yorbeau conducted during 2008 an expanded exploration program on the mineralized corridor between the Augmitto and Astoria deposits that resulted in the discovery of two new gold zones – the Cinderella and Lake Gamble zones. These have been described in several press releases and can be seen by clicking on the following links: Augmitto-Astoria longitudinal section, Cinderella longitudinal section and Lake Gamble longitudinal section.
The Company plans to drill up to 30,000 meters of NQ diamond holes during 2009, with upwards of 20,000 meters on the Augmitto-Astoria corridor. Additional drilling will be done on the eastern targets (Lake Bouzan, Bouzan West and Smokey Creek targets) that revealed encouraging geologic results in the 2008 program but require more drilling to locate potential economic zones.
The investments made by previous owners of Yorbeau's Rouyn Property resulted in a valuable legacy of data and physical infrastructure. These include, at Augmitto, an office and maintenance complex, a 250-metre shaft and a 1,142-meter ramp with development drifts on several levels. Moreover, the Astoria property has had significant development. Previous operators had achieved pre-extraction stage development, with a 515 meter (1,690 ft.) shaft and 7 levels of drifts and cross cuts totalling 7,445 m (24,431 ft.).
The site's proximity to the urban centre of Rouyn-Noranda further contributes to the attraction of the property. The town offers a pool of trained labour, so no housing for workers will be required and no roads will have to be built to the site. The site thus offers an ideal set of circumstances for contemplating the start of production. Moreover, Quebec is one of the most welcoming jurisdictions in the world for mining companies.
Yorbeau is strongly positioned to evolve rapidly to its next stage. Realistic expectations see Yorbeau's Rouyn Property becoming a significant gold asset before the end of this decade.
